I’ve used backpacks and ‘sling over the shoulder bags’ to carry things to and from work (e.g. files, laptop computer). You see a lot of people using should sling type bags. They are convenient, but I think they have a risk. I considered what could happen going down with a sling bag around my neck and shoulder. There is a chance of the bag getting caught on something and me breaking my neck. So, I have discontinued this practice. Backpacks seem to stay in place better and may not carry the same risk.
After the gear post this came to mind.

Yeah, I thought of using a backpack or a sissy bar bag. Currently I bungee my lunchbox (a large Igloo cooler) to the backseat between me and the sissy bar. It actually makes a pretty good backrest . But what I really want is a set of saddlebags like the other Chris has. His look sharp on the custom . I'd also like to get a tool bag for the front because I can't get the damn toolkit back in its original location .

I usually have an old waterproof army backpack with me containing my rainsuit, some tools, first aid things and something to drink. I fix it on the rear seat as I do not like to carry anything myself that can carry my bike instead. This usually provides enough space for transport of other things but I also have aluminium boxes (they are mounted in my avatar picture) for longer trips.

My bike has a set of brown bags on it look in the pics section if you want to see what they will look like.
