Parting Out: 1982 Honda CB650

Postby witttom » Sun Sep 30, 2012 11:09 pm

Many of you are familiar with my 80CB650C thread. I've sold LOTS of those parts. I have now acquired a 1982 Honda CB650 (Standard, Non-Custom) that I will be parting out.

ImageImage

This bike is pretty much complete. Carbs are removed. I do not know it's history, but I'm assuming it's not running because... well, the carbs are removed (it probably needed a carb cleaning, and a previous owner didn't know what they were doing). Title has since been lost, which makes it a parts bike. I have the carbs, but the float bowls have been removed. I need to inspect them to see what condition they're really in. I also have the original chrome headlight bucket (photos above show a Vetter headlight rigged up). Front wheel is a 19". Rear wheel is a 17".

FAQ's:
Seat is in good shape, and has no rips.
I have all the electronics.
Brakes work well.
Tank appears to be solid with no noticeable dents, but does have exterior scratches and rust on the inside.
Both side covers in good shape.
Tail light lens has a crack.

I will be breaking this bike down over the coming days, photographing individual pieces, and selling everything. Let me know what you need. I will be updating this thread with a list of parts that have sold. It is fairly common for me to ship parts out the following day after receiving a PayPal payment, but sometimes it takes me two or three.

I will answer PM's, but if you have an interest or questions about specific parts, it's usually best (and quicker) if you email me directly at witttom@yahoo.com (three T-s in w-i-t-t-t-o-m).

Bottom seams appear to be in good shape. The tank does not appear to be rusted out anywhere. There IS rust inside the tank though. I would not consider it severe, but but bad enough that I would not attempt to use it without treating it. The tank did not have any fuel in it when I got it. The more I shake it around and try to dump out the rust flakes, I think the more it flakes.

My local buyer has decided that he does not want to tear into his 550 to swap out cams. So, this cam is now available. I have had a lot of inquiries here on SOHC as well as the CB650 forums, as a result of me parting out this 82CB650 as well as parting out my 80CB650C. I'm honestly not sure who inquired about it first (some inquires where months ago).

It is showing some wear, but not terrible. Looks normal IMHO with a bike that has 40k on it. I'd like $100 out of it, plus shipping.

You will probably want to throw the tach drive gear in with the cam. That is also needed for the swap.

Tachs are easier to find though than the cams and tach drive gears. The Cb750 tachs work, and look more like the 550 tach. Its what I would use if I was going to do a swap.

Right side exhaust/muffler/header has already sold. I only have the left exhaust/muffler/header and two center headers remaining. If you're interested in any of these remaining pieces (I'm assuming you need the whole setup) please feel free to let me know.
