HOW CLOSE IS TOO CLOSE?

Postby imnotazombie » Mon Jun 23, 2014 10:56 pm

Okay, so... I bought an 83 CB650SC for the purposes of making it a brat style. I got it running like a dream, and stopped doing mods after only replacing the bars, lights, grips and mirrors. After a few Youtube videos, instagram "grams", and countless hours on forums I'm ready to undertake replacing the tank, detabbing the frame, and making a new seat. I've bought a tank and it fits the stock placement (for the most part).

My problem? Well on a hunch I rode the bike around town for about thirty minutes before removing the old tank and dry fitting the new tank. Within minutes the bottom of the tank is warm, hot almost.... the stock tank (with fuel in it) never gets this hot. I know because I tuck in, grab the underside of the front of the tank and try to see how fast i can go.

So, how close it too close for the tank to the engine?

IMO, as long as it doesnt boil the gas and vapor lock, it should be fine. I plan on finding a larger harley tank for when i hardtail mine this winter
