So let me tell you what happened with this bike. Back in July of 2014, I sold it to a guy. He rode it for about a year and put several thousand miles on it before the engine locked up on him. He took it to a local shop who quoted him $1800 to fix it. This was more than he was willing to pay, so he decided to junk it. I ended up getting it back from him. I got it home, pulled the engine, and found this:
It slung a rod. The engine case was ruined, as well as the crank and at least one sleeve of the cylinder. I had another CB750C engine laying around in which the cam tensioners came apart. This destroyed parts of that engine, so I thought I'd see if I could get one working engine out of the parts of both. I took the destroyed sleeve and banged it out of the cylinder:
Then added one from the other engine. Perfect fit:
Then I took the crank, transmission, and one piston from the cam tensioner engine, and put it together with the cylinder, head, and cylinder head cover from the original engine and made one engine:
I put it back in the frame and fired it up! Good as new!
Rather than paint it, I buffed up all the parts to make them nice and shiny:
I have a guy who does seats for me, but he lives about 4 hours away. I put it on Craigslist for sale to see what Kind of interest I would get. If I did not get enough interest, I was going to take the seat to my friend to have it redone. It sold the following day.
