Hey guys,
I currently run a 79 cb650 chassy with spoked rear wheel off an 82. I am considering throwing on a HD 3.00X16 RIM (eBay for about $50) and running firestone vintage champion 500-16 (equiv to a 130/90-16 I think). The total diameter for this combo will be a little over 26". Pros/cons for wider tire 5.00 (vs stock 4.50-17)?
Has anyone done this, or something similar? I'm interested in know whether the wider rim will be an issue for clearance.
The total diameter for this combo will be a little over 26". Anyone know what the stock 17 wheel and tire's total diameter is, or if it's taller shorter? The reason I ask is because I have a seat hoop installed, and clearance is scarce.
Alteratively, I could run a 3.50-16 tire of the same brand/model. And the total diamater would be 24.5" or so. Pros/cons of a thinner tire (vs stock 4.50-17)?
Thanks,
Fatter Wheel on 79 CB650
Re: Fatter Wheel on 79 CB650
You shold have no problems with the 130 size tire. It is the same size as the stock tire on the comstar wheel which has been used on the 79's with no issues.
