Top triple clamp that will fit the 650.

If it's broken or just needs tweaked

Top triple clamp that will fit the 650.

Postby WnRn » Tue Mar 24, 2015 4:34 am

Anyone know of any other top triple clamp that will fit the 650 without major surgery?

I want to be able to fit different bar risers. The clamp that is on my 650Z is molded into the top clamp.

Just a suggestion but how about cutting them off and filling things flush. Then drill for the new risers.

I don't know if that is possible as I haven't had the clamp off to look at the underside, but I have seen this done on other bikes.

Cheers

I don't believe you can shave them down. Reason being because of what they are like underneath....

you can take the standard top tree and shave off the cast handlebar lugs. I did mine so I could fit 1 inch drag bars with 2 inch risers, here's a picture

These are the bars I want to fit.. From Zombie Performance.

I would still need to drill holes in the clamp for the rider bolts to go through. The riser are turned due to the curve of the bars. A feature i love the look of. So shaving down the clamps might work.

Yes they should fit, because you will end up with two holes (from the original clamp), you will need to tidy it up with a blanking plate (I used 3mm copper as it suited the style) and under I used large, thick washers as it is not flat.

you could build up the dips underneath (and holes) with aluminium weld, Next time I take it off I will do this

cheers

That is perfect. I really like the brass you have used.

I hope this is only a surface finish.
I would not like to have brass bolts and nuts at the steering (and hardly anywhere else at a motorcycle, too).

No these bolts are high grade stainless steel that I copper plated the heads (like every bolt on the bike)
